How ICL Helped Early Childhood Educators Build Power During the Pandemic
Thursday, October 22 at 7:00pm – 8:00pm
The Covid-19 pandemic has made the need for affordable, universally-available, and professionally-delivered childcare clearer than ever. In early June, the Institute for Change Leaders (ICL) concluded a three-month-long online training series in collaboration with the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario (AECEO). This Festival Session, led by Olivia Chow, will provide an overview of how ICL trainers worked with early-childhood educators (ECEs) to teach the skills they needed to build confidence and communicate the importance of a safe reopening, a fair workplace and a publicly funded system.
10 days after completing the training, ECEs held a Virtual Rally of 1,500 demanding a reopening plan that ensured quality and safety for all. 21,000 individuals tuned in to support this rally and both levels of government listened. In July, the Government of Canada announced $625 million in federal funding for the child care sector.
